The most memorable and rewarding things I’ve ever done by Kalia Costa

I am Kalia Costa, I live in the UK and work for myself as a Beauty Therapist. I’ve always wanted to do my bit for charity, and although fundraising to help good causes is a great thing, there is always a disconnect if you haven’t experienced what ever it is or who ever it is you are raising money for.
From afar I watched humanitarians get submersed in the work they do and felt somewhat in awe of them for being the strong heroic beings that they are and not for any accolades.

My life changed when I had the pleasure of meeting Dr Ramiz Momeni, Sarah Wade and Genevive Jones-Hernandez though my partners work, He works for the Duchess of York. Who is a patron for Humanitas.
Getting to know these wonderful angels inspired me even more and made me realise that this is the time for me to actively do what I always wanted to do and take part. This was what sparked my trip to Ghana!! 🇬🇭❤️

Our trip to Ghana has to be one of the best and most memorable and rewarding things I’ve ever done in my life so far. I cannot wait to return and I just want everyone I know to come with me, it’s an experience I think everyone should have because you cannot articulate into words the feelings you have along the way.
The other amazing volunteers who came with us were incredible, non of us knew each other at the start and now we have made friends for life, both in the UK and Ghana!

I didn’t know what to expect before I went on this trip, I was briefed on the basics but i tried my hardest not to have any expectations, I have have to say I was not disappointed. The Ghanaian people are some of the loveliest people I have ever met, greeting you always with a HUGE smile and open arms. Always wanting to help, nothing was too much and always so polite and gentle.

We lived a very basic life in the village of Ayensuako stripped of all the material things we have here in the UK but i very soon realised that we don’t need it, we don’t need all the stuff we have, it’s not important and it doesn’t make any of us happy long term, it’s all superficial and this was the biggest thing i learnt from this trip. I don’t want it any more!!

The children were adorable, so happy and so excited to have us there, they were super intelligent too, always wanting to learn and better their knowledge of the world.

I thank each and everyone of you who followed our journey and donated to raise money to build these children the secondary school they deserve, it’s money very well spent as they will absolutely respect it and treasure it because it’s all they want to do, learn. I hope I can be there on the opening and watch their excitement & happiness🙏🏽❤️
