IDNET, bringing WI-FI to rural Ghana

Ayensuako is a rural community located three hours drive from Accra, Ghana’s capital. It is home to our school where Wi-Fi was either extremely limited or non-existent. We work in communities that receive no support from other charities, which often means that communication with the outside world is very challenging to set up.

In September we met with IDNET, our corporate sponsor. They have been providing free Wi-Fi and Internet services to our office in Hitchin for several years. Together we decided to come up with a solution to bring the Internet to Ayensuako - a communication void!

And that is exactly what this incredible team of engineers has done!

We not only arrived in Ayensuako with a piece of apparatus created by IDNET to boost communications, but they also generously donated a projector.  This means we can now show educational videos; video updates from UK schools….and sometimes just a good old-fashioned movie for our pupils to enjoy.

As a charity, we continuously strive to create a platform for the people we support - to share their visions, hopes, dreams, and voice - after all it is their lives. We do this through our YouTube channel and social media, where we share raw, unedited videos made by the children and teachers at our school. Having access to Wi-Fi is critical to realising our vision of enabling this real-life communication between our supporters and beneficiaries and we are so grateful to IDNET who have made it possible. We cannot THANK YOU enough.
