Our Programmes
Education
At Humanitas, we believe that education is one of the most powerful tools for breaking the cycle of poverty. Our international education programmes support vulnerable children living in rural and hard to reach aeras of the world. We support children through pre-school to junior and senior school, with additional assistance available through university scholarship opportunities.
Over the years, we have witnessed the transformative impact that access to quality education can have on rural communities. Beyond classroom learning, our programmes include IT training, sports coaching, and library facilities, helping students develop the skills, confidence, and knowledge needed to succeed in higher education and secure meaningful employment in the future.
Healthcare
Humanitas has delivered healthcare programmes around the world, supporting destitute and marginalised communities through medical clinics, family planning initiatives, and emergency medical treatment in refugee camps.
Today, our primary focus is the delivery of emergency medical treatment and healthcare training in regions affected by conflict, natural disasters, and humanitarian crises. By working alongside local communities and healthcare professionals, we help ensure that life-saving support reaches those who need it most.
Family Care and Support
Strong families create strong communities. Humanitas provides a wide range of family support programmes designed to keep families together and improve the physical and mental wellbeing of children.
Our initiatives include foster care and family support programmes that help prevent child abandonment and provide vulnerable families with the assistance they need to thrive. Our goal is to create safe, stable, and nurturing environments where every child has the opportunity to grow and succeed.
Vocational Training
Many young people in rural Ghana leave school with only a basic education, limiting their opportunities to secure skilled employment and improve their family's economic circumstances. Vocational colleges are often located far from rural communities, making them inaccessible to many families due to transportation costs.
Our Sewing School provides practical vocational training for students and members of the local community, teaching valuable skills such as garment making, bag production, and the creation of household items. Graduates who successfully complete the programme receive support and equipment to help them establish their own businesses, creating sustainable livelihoods and strengthening local economies.
Clean Water, Food Security and Sustainable Farming
Access to clean water is essential if children and their families are to survive and thrive. Humanitas provides free access to clean water through wells installed within the communities we serve.
We also ensure that our students receive nutritious daily meals, helping to improve concentration, educational outcomes, and overall wellbeing.
Our sustainable farming programme supports widows and single-parent families by providing access to land where they can grow crops for both household consumption and income generation. Produce grown through the programme also helps supply school kitchens, creating a sustainable cycle that benefits families, students, and the wider community.
Support for Orphans and Vulnerable Children
For more than 20 years, Humanitas has supported orphanages and children's homes in Romania and Ghana through construction projects, staffing support, essential supplies, therapeutic services, and educational resources.
While we remain committed to supporting children living in residential care, our long-term vision is a world where every child can grow up within a loving family environment. This commitment works hand-in-hand with our family support programmes, which aim to strengthen families and eliminate the need for institutional care.
Environmental Sustainability and Waste Reduction
Protecting the environment is essential for ensuring that our children have the resources they need to live healthy and fulfilling lives. Humanitas works alongside local communities to reduce plastic waste, combat pollution, and improve environmental health.
Through community-led initiatives, we empower families to adopt sustainable practices that protect natural resources for future generations. Together, we are helping to build cleaner, healthier, and more resilient communities for future generations.
