SAFE HOMES, ROMANIA

In 2005 Humanitas charity created the Safe Homes project, committed to providing lifelong care for orphaned Romanian children with special needs and disabilities.

Not only do they provide essential medical assistance, but these residential homes guarantee a loving family environment to allow these abandoned children – who are often barely surviving in institutions – to grow and to flourish.

The children are cared for by two sets of foster parents and additional Humanitas staff, including qualified doctors, physiotherapists, and psychologists visit the Safe Home’s onsite Therapy Centre daily, to provide the one-to-one healthcare the children require.

It’s not always possible to place children with severe disabilities and special needs into foster families. Safe Homes solves this problem.

Each of our children has shown phenomenal progress throughout their time in our safe homes, and our dedicated team work daily to empower these individuals to reach their full potential, both physically and mentally.

As they grow older in our care, we are with them every step of the way, through school, university and beyond. However they choose to advance themselves, the Humanitas Safe Home is always there for them.

It is hugely rewarding to witness the lasting improvement in these children who, without the Safe Homes project, would not have received the vital daily care they need.

Taking a Trip 4 Humanity to a Summer Camp in Romania!

Our children love their lives in our Safe Homes. But that doesn’t mean they don’t like to get away and head to the great outdoors for some fun and frolics.

To fuel their exploratory spirits, we create and run Summer Camps so the children can have a laugh and enjoy themselves.

When you volunteer at a Humanitas Summer Camp you will spend one or two weeks providing necessary support to the young people we’re working with and assisting our professional staff to deliver a safe and fun environment for all.

You could be running any number of activities during your trip but here are the most popular amongst our children:

  • Football coaching
  • Arts and crafts lessons

  • Sports activities

  • Painting classes

So if you’re an individual or group who loves working with young people and would like to work with us on a summer camp in Romania then we want to hear from you!

Our dates are very flexible for the summer months, so get in touch and we can work with your group to determine an itinerary that suits both yourself, the charity, and the children we’re supporting.

Qualified Physiotherapist opportunity at our Safe Homes project in Romania!

If you’re a qualified Physiotherapist and have experience in your field, we would love to hear from you.

Our Safe Homes in Romania are a friendly, stable environment for orphaned and abandoned children with disabilities and special needs. So many of our children have flourished thanks to the physiotherapy we have provided.

Nothing is more rewarding them witnessing them reach their full potential, both physically and mentally.

By joining us on a volunteer placement, you’ll work side by side with our in-house physio, delivering life changing care, and you’ll see first-hand the positive effects physiotherapy can have on the children under our care.

To apply for a physiotherapist placement apply on our Volunteer Opportunities page.
